Lesson 258

We glow inwardly with Thy fire, with Thy good fire.

Excerpt

We are inflamed, by Thy Gift we are kindled; and are carried upwards; we glow inwardly, and go forwards. We ascend Thy ways that be in our heart, and sing a song of degrees; we glow inwardly with Thy fire, with Thy good fire, and we go; because we go upwards to the peace of Jerusalem: for gladdened was I in those who said unto me, We will go up to the house of the Lord.

✨ To meditate on today

According to Saint Augustine, love is like a fire that God’s Spirit kindles in us: it lifts us and makes us climb, step after step, like the pilgrims who sang the “songs of degrees” as they went up to Jerusalem, the city of peace. Today, choose one “step” to climb (a forgiveness, a service, a moment of prayer) and climb it with joy.
