The doctrine of the conquest of self, O Simha, is not taught to destroy the souls of men, but to preserve them. He who has conquered self is more fit to live, to be successful, and to gain victories than he who is the slave of self.

โจ To meditate on today
According to the Gospel of Buddha, the Buddha explains to the general Simha that self-mastery is not meant to crush the person, but to preserve them: whoever is no longer a slave to his impulses lives more freely and succeeds better. Today, when an impulse (anger, craving, impatience) arises, observe it for a few seconds without obeying it, then freely choose your response.
