Lesson 195

I pass my days, fearless, at rest, confident, unalarmed.

Excerpt

Thus guarded and closely watched, Sire, I lived in a state of anxiety, distrust and alarm; now, Sire, that I wander through the forests, under trees and in desolate places, I pass my days, fearless, at rest, confident, unalarmed, in comfort, unterrified, supported by gifts of food and garments from others, and with a heart free as that of a gazelle.

✨ To meditate on today

According to the Udâna, the monk Bhaddiya, a former prince, explains to the Buddha that, surrounded by guards, he lived in fear, whereas now, owning nothing, he lives in peace, confident, with a heart free as a gazelle. Today, notice something you guard anxiously (a possession, an image, a habit) and try to hold it a little more lightly.
