O sarḥ tree of the valley and O bán tree of the thicket, deliver to us of your perfume, by means of the zephyr, A musky odour which exhales its fragrance to us from the flowers of thy lowlands or the flowers of the hills. O bán tree of the valley, show us a branch or some twigs that can be compared with her tenderness!

✨ To meditate on today
According to Ibn Arabi, an Andalusian mystic, the poet asks the trees of the desert, the sarḥ and the bán (a tree with supple, fragrant branches), to send him their perfume on the breeze, as a sign of the tenderness of the beloved he sings, an image of divine beauty. Today, go outside for a few minutes, come close to a tree or a flower, breathe in its scent carried by the air, and receive it as a sign of tenderness.
