Whenever we meet to take farewell thou wouldst deem us, as we clasp and embrace, to be a doubled letter. Although our bodies are dual, the eye sees only a single one. This is because of my leanness and his light, and were it not for my moaning, I should have been invisible to the eye.

✨ To meditate on today
According to Ibn Arabi, the Andalusian Sufi master, in this love poem from The Interpreter of Desires, two embracing lovers look like a “doubled letter”, which in Arabic is written only once: it is the image of the soul so united with the light of the divine Beloved that they can no longer be told apart. Today, when you greet or embrace someone you love, take a second to feel what unites you beyond your two bodies.
