Lesson 115

I wish to relieve every creature of all pain.

Excerpt

By the merit of all these good works, I wish to relieve every creature of all pain; to be the remedy, the physician, the servant of the sick—as long as there are sicknesses; to quench, with showers of food and drink, the fire of hunger and thirst; to be myself—during the famine at the end of the world—drink and food; I wish to be for the poor an inexhaustible treasure, a servant who provides all that they lack.

✨ To meditate on today

According to Śāntideva, in the Bodhicaryāvatāra, one who takes up the “thought of Bodhi”, the vow to awaken for the good of all, wishes to become a remedy for the sick, food for the hungry and a treasure for the poor, for as long as it takes. Today, be someone’s remedy: bring a meal, a service or some time to a person who lacks something.
