Full of modesty and pity, he is compassionate and kind to all creatures that have life.

Excerpt

Now wherein, Vaseṭṭha, is his conduct good? Herein, O Vaseṭṭha, that putting away the murder of that which lives, he abstains from destroying life. The cudgel and the sword he lays aside; and, full of modesty and pity, he is compassionate and kind to all creatures that have life! This is the kind of goodness that he has.

✨ To meditate on today

According to the Tevigga Sutta, the disciple’s good conduct begins with respect for life: he lays aside the cudgel and the sword, and he feels compassion and kindness toward all that lives. Today, pay attention to the smallest beings you meet, an insect, an animal, a plant, treat them gently, then offer that same gentleness to a person who needs it.
