Lesson 324
Lesson 324

I merely follow, for I would not lead.

Father, You are the One Who gave the plan for my salvation to me. You have set the way I am to go, the role to take, and every step in my appointed path. I cannot lose the way. I can but choose to wander off a while, and then return. Your loving Voice will always call me back, and guide my feet aright. My brothers all can follow in the way I lead them. Yet I merely follow in the way to You, as You direct me and would have me go.

So let us follow One Who knows the way. We need not tarry, and we cannot stray except an instant from His loving hand. We walk together, for we follow Him. And it is He Who makes the ending sure, and guarantees a safe returning home.

✨ Summary & practice

You merely follow, for you would not lead, let God guide.

God has given you the plan of your salvation. He has set the path you are to follow, the role to take, and every step on the road assigned to you. You cannot lose your way; you can only choose to wander for a moment before returning. His loving Voice will always call you back and guide your steps in the right direction. All your brothers can follow the path you lead them on, but you yourself are only following the path that leads to God.

The essential message is that there is great relief in not being the one who leads. The ego wants to lead, control, decide. But this responsibility is an overwhelming burden. Following God is laying down that burden. It is recognizing that you do not know the way by yourself, but that He who guides you knows it perfectly. Following is not weakness; it is deep wisdom. It is trusting infinite intelligence over your limited understanding.

This lesson continues the teaching on God’s Will and surrender. You have chosen to give your will to God, to want nothing other than Him. Here, you take action: you concretely follow His guidance. Previous lessons have prepared you to understand that God’s direction is gentle and certain. By following, you walk with Him and with all your brothers. No one is left alone on this path.

To practice this today, consciously release the need to control everything. Before each action, pause and say: « It is not I who lead. You, Father, guide me. » Then act in trust, without checking whether it was the right decision. Observe how things gently fall into place, how doors open, how people appear at the right moment. This is guidance at work. The more you follow, the less you struggle. The more you surrender, the freer you become.

Following is the safest path. Let God lead, and you will unfailingly arrive home.
