I sacrifice illusions; nothing more. And as illusions go I find the gifts illusions tried to hide, awaiting me in shining welcome, and in readiness to give God's ancient messages to me. His memory abides in every gift that I receive of Him. And every dream serves only to conceal the Self Which is God's only Son, the likeness of Himself, the Holy One Who still abides in Him forever, as He still abides in me.
Father, to You all sacrifice remains forever inconceivable. And so I cannot sacrifice except in dreams. As You created me, I can give up nothing You gave me. What You did not give has no reality. What loss can I anticipate except the loss of fear, and the return of Love into my mind?

When you give something up, you sacrifice only illusions, nothing more. And as illusions disappear, you find the gifts they sought to hide. These gifts wait for you in the light, ready to give you the ancient messages of God. The memory of God remains in every gift you receive from Him. Every dream you let fall was only concealing the Self who is the one Son of God.
The powerful teaching is that sacrifice is impossible in reality. You can only give up what was never real. Sin, fear, guilt, suffering, none of this has ever existed. How could you lose something that was never yours? What God has given you is eternal and cannot be lost. What He has not given you has no reality. What loss could you possibly fear, except the loss of fear and the return of love?
This lesson frees you from the fear of sacrifice. Previous lessons have shown you that you do not need to make sacrifices to find God’s peace. Here, you understand why: there is nothing to sacrifice. The ego makes you believe you lose something by forgiving, by loving, by letting go. But in truth, you only lose illusions. It is like someone afraid to release a stone they believed was a diamond. By letting go of the illusion, you find the true treasure.
To apply this lesson today, identify something you are clinging to and fear losing. Ask yourself: « Is this real or is it an illusion? » If it is an illusion, a grudge, a fear, an attachment, let it go. Say: « I can only give up what was never real. This is not real, and I let it go. » You will feel immediate relief, a weight lifting. This is proof that you have lost nothing, but gained freedom.
You have nothing to lose except your illusions. And in losing them, you find everything God has given you.
