Lesson 297
Lesson 297

Forgiveness is the only gift I give.

Forgiveness is the only gift I give because it is the only gift I want, and everything I give I give myself. This is salvation's simple formula. And I, who would be saved, would make it mine, to be the way I live within a world that needs salvation, and that will be saved as I accept Atonement for myself.

Father, how certain are Your ways; how sure their outcome, and how truly faithful is every step in my salvation set already, and accomplished by Your grace. Thanks be to You for Your eternal gifts, and thanks to You for my Identity.

✨ Summary & practice

Forgiveness is the only gift you give, and every gift is given back to you.

Having offered your eyes and your voice (Lessons 295–296), this lesson simplifies all action into one gift. In the curriculum, it is the distilled essence of all teaching. Forgiveness is the only gift you give, because it is the only gift you truly desire. And everything you give, you give to yourself. This is the simple formula of salvation. And you, who wish to be saved, make it your own, so it becomes your way of living in a world that needs salvation.

The central idea is one of luminous simplicity. Forgiveness is the only gift truly worth giving. Every gift you offer, whether money, time, attention, or love, is a form of forgiveness when given from the heart. And when you give forgiveness, you receive it. The world will be saved when you accept the Atonement for yourself. The ways of God are certain; every step of your salvation is already set and accomplished by His grace.

This lesson is part of the final preparation (297–300). It prepares for Lessons 298–300 on love, holiness, and the end of the world. It echoes Lesson 249 (forgiveness ends all suffering), Lesson 256 (God is the only goal, forgiveness is the path), and Lesson 288 (forgive your brother). Forgiveness is not just one practice among others, it is the only practice, the only gift, the only path.

In practice today, simplify everything. See every interaction, every action, every word as an opportunity to give forgiveness. When someone seems to offend you, forgive. When you make a mistake, forgive yourself. When you give something, give it with a spirit of forgiveness. And remember: everything you give, you give to yourself. So give generously, give fully, give without reserve. Forgiveness is the treasure that never diminishes by being given.

You have only one thing to do, one gift to offer, one lesson to learn. Everything is forgiveness. Give it freely today, and you will receive it in abundance. For this is God’s promise: whatever you give will be returned to you a hundredfold.
