If I could realize but this today, salvation would be reached for all the world. This the decision not to be insane, and to accept myself as God Himself, my Father and my Source, created me. This the determination not to be asleep in dreams of death, while truth remains forever living in the joy of life. And this the choice to recognize the Self Whom God created as the Son He loves, and Who remains my one Reality.
Father, Your Name is Love, and so is mine. Such is the truth. And can the truth be changed by merely giving it another name? The name of fear is simply a mistake. Let me not be afraid of truth today.

This lesson addresses a surprising yet profound fear: the fear of love. Within the curriculum, it is the final barrier. If you could understand this today, salvation would be achieved for the whole world. It is the decision not to be insane, but to accept yourself as God Himself, your Father and your Source, created you. It is the choice not to remain asleep in dreams of death while truth remains eternally alive in the joy of love.
The central idea is that the Name of God is Love, and so is yours. Truth cannot be changed by giving it another name. The name of fear is merely an error. You do not fear truth today. The fear of love is simply the fear of what you truly are. For you are love, and love would ask you to release all the defenses you have built. But these defenses kept you imprisoned. Love sets you free.
This lesson builds upon the previous one (281) and prepares for Lessons 283–285 on identity and holiness. It echoes Lesson 246 (to love the Father is to love His Son), Lesson 261 (God is my refuge), and Lesson 272 (how can illusions satisfy the Son of God?). The fear of love is the final obstacle because love completely dissolves the ego.
In practice, today, observe the moments when you resist love, when someone gives you a compliment, when you feel tenderness, when you are moved. Notice the reaction: a withdrawal, discomfort, a desire to flee. Then consciously choose to remain in love. Say: "I am not afraid of love. Love is what I am." Allow yourself to receive love without defense. Allow yourself to give love without restraint. This is how you overcome the final fear.
You have feared love because love asks you to abandon everything you believed yourself to be. But what you believe yourself to be is only a shadow. Love is reality. Today, do not fear, love and let yourself be loved.
