Lesson 280
Lesson 280

What limits can I lay upon God’s Son?

Whom God created limitless is free. I can invent imprisonment for him, but only in illusions, not in truth. No Thought of God has left Its Father's Mind. No Thought of God is limited at all. No Thought of God but is forever pure. Can I lay limits on the Son of God, whose Father willed that he be limitless, and like Himself in freedom and in love?

Today let me give honor to Your Son, for thus alone I find the way to You. Father, I lay no limits on the Son You love, and You created limitless. The honor that I give to him is Yours, and what is Yours belongs to me as well.

What is the Holy Spirit?

The Holy Spirit mediates between illusions and the truth. As He must bridge the gap between reality and dreams, perception leads to knowledge through the grace that God has given Him, to be His gift to everyone who turns to Him for truth. Across the bridge that He provides are dreams all carried to the truth, to be dispelled before the light of knowledge. There are sights and sounds forever laid aside.

And where they were perceived before, forgiveness has made possible perception's tranquil end.

The goal the Holy Spirit's teaching sets is just this end of dreams. For sights and sounds must be translated from the witnesses of fear to those of love. And when this is entirely accomplished, learning has achieved the only goal it has in truth. For learning, as the Holy Spirit guides it to the outcome He perceives for it, becomes the means to go beyond itself, to be replaced by the Eternal Truth.

If you but knew how much your Father yearns to have you recognize your sinlessness, you would not let His Voice appeal in vain, nor turn away from His replacement for the fearful images and dreams you made. The Holy Spirit understands the means you made, by which you would attain what is forever unobtainable. And if you offer them to Him, He will employ the means you made for exile, to restore your mind to where it truly is at home.

From knowledge, where He has been placed by God, the Holy Spirit calls to you, to let forgiveness rest upon your dreams, and be restored to sanity and peace of mind. Without forgiveness will your dreams remain to terrify you. And the memory of all your Father's Love will not return to signify the end of dreams has come.

Accept your Father's gift. It is a call from Love to Love, that It be but Itself. The Holy Spirit is His gift, by Which the quietness of Heaven is restored to God's beloved Son. Would you refuse to take the function of completing God, when all He wills is that you be complete?

✨ Summary & practice

No limit can be imposed upon the Son of God.

This lesson is the culmination of a series on freedom (277–279). Within the curriculum, it is a question inviting reflection: what limits can you impose upon the Son of God? The answer is clear: none. He whom God created limitless is free. You may invent imprisonment for him, but only in illusions, not in truth. No Thought of God has left the Mind of His Father. None is limited. None is other than pure.

The central idea is that you cannot impose limits on what God created limitless. The Son of God is like his Father in freedom and love. The honor you give the Son is given to God. And what belongs to God also belongs to you. By honoring the Son of God, by recognizing he is without limits, free, pure, and holy, you honor God and claim your own inheritance. The limits you see are illusions, not reality.

This lesson concludes the series on freedom (277–280) and prepares for Lessons 281–290 on thoughts, love, identity, and holiness. It echoes Lesson 250 (do not see yourself as limited), Lesson 253 (my Self governs the universe), and Lesson 262 (beyond differences). The absence of limits is a direct consequence of divine identity. If you are the Son of God, you cannot be limited.

In practice, today, whenever you encounter a limit, a limit of time, money, ability, health, or understanding, pause and ask: "Is this a real limit or an illusion?" Remember: "I am the Son of God, and God created no limits." Do not seek to recklessly defy physical limits, but stop believing in them as absolute truths. Your awareness of limitlessness is what gradually dissolves them.

The universe is your inheritance, and nothing is too great for you. The limits you perceive are clouds passing before the sun of your true nature. Look beyond, there is only infinity.
