Lesson 254
Lesson 254

Let every voice but God’s be still in me.

Father, today I would but hearYour Voice. In deepest silence I would come to You, to hear Your Voice and to receive Your Word. I have no prayer but this: I come to You to ask You for the truth. And truth is but Your Will, which I would share with You today.

Today we let no evil thoughts direct our words or actions. When such thoughts occur, we quietly step back and look at them, and then we let them go. We do not want what they would bring with them. And so we do not choose to keep them. They are silent now. And in the stillness, hallowed by His Love, God speaks to us and tells us of our Will, as we have chosen to remember Him.

✨ Summary & practice

Be silent within to hear the only Voice that matters.

After discovering that your Self governs the universe (lesson 253), this lesson gives you the key to govern wisely: silence. In the curriculum, this is an essential practice. If all the voices of the world, the ego, fears, desires, judgments, shout within you, how can you hear the only Voice that truly knows? This lesson invites you into deep inner silence, where God’s Voice becomes audible and His Word can be received.

The central idea is simple but demanding. You come to God in the deepest silence. Your only prayer is truth, which is nothing other than God’s Will. You allow no ego thought to direct your words or actions. When such thoughts arise, you quietly observe them and then let them go. They fall silent. And in this silence sanctified by God’s Love, He speaks to you of your will, for you have chosen to remember Him.

This lesson builds on the previous one: if you govern the universe, you must learn to listen to the right guidance. It prepares the next lesson on perfect peace (255). It also echoes a recurring theme: silence as the condition for divine communication. The lessons at the end of the curriculum (286, 291) will return to this theme of sacred silence. The practice of silence is not optional but necessary to hear God.

To live this lesson today, create regular pauses of silence. Upon waking, sit in silence for five minutes. At noon, three minutes. Before sleeping, five minutes. During these silences, each time a thought of judgment, worry, or planning arises, observe it and say: “I let you go.” Do not struggle. Simply return to silence. Gradually, you will begin to sense a presence, a peace, a guidance that is not your own.

In silence, God speaks to you. Quiet the noise of the world and your mind. What you will hear will change everything.
