It does not seem to me that I can choose to have but peace today. And yet, my God assures me that His Son is like Himself. Let me this day have faith in Him Who says I am God's Son. And let the peace I choose be mine today bear witness to the truth of what He says. God's Son can have no cares, and must remain forever in the peace of Heaven. In his name I give today to finding what my Father wills for me, accepting it as mine, and giving it to all my Father's Sons, along with me.
And so, my Father, would I pass this day with You. Your Son has not forgotten You. The peace You gave him still is in his mind, and it is there I choose to spend today.
Choose perfect peace for today, it is possible.
After making silence to hear God (lesson 254), this lesson invites you to a concrete choice: spend this day in perfect peace. In the curriculum, this is an act of faith. It may not seem possible to choose peace, too many worries, responsibilities, problems. But this lesson reminds you that you are the Son of God, and the Son of God cannot have any worry. He remains forever in the peace of Heaven. This is your true nature.
The central idea is that peace is a choice, not a consequence of circumstances. You dedicate this day to finding what your Father wants for you, accepting it as yours, and giving it to all the Sons of God. The peace God gave you still rests in your mind. It has never disappeared; it simply waits for you to choose it. This is where you spend the day, not in the busy world of the ego, but in the silent peace of God.
This lesson naturally follows the silence of lesson 254: after quieting the noise of the ego, you can now choose peace. It prepares lessons 256–258 on God as the only goal. Choosing perfect peace is the foundation upon which everything else rests: when you have peace, you can hear God, see clearly, and truly forgive. It is the condition for the rest of the curriculum.
To apply this lesson practically, begin your day with this declaration: 'I choose to spend this day in perfect peace.' When a worry arises, a deadline, a conflict, a fear, pause and ask: 'What is more important: solving this problem or keeping my peace?' Choose peace. You will discover that problems resolve better in peace than in anxiety. Try it for just one day.
Perfect peace is offered to you every instant. You need only choose it. Everything else can wait.
