My Self is holy beyond all the thoughts of holiness of which I now conceive. Its shimmering and perfect purity is far more brilliant than is any light that I have ever looked upon. Its love is limitless, with an intensity that holds all things within it in the calm of quiet certainty. Its strength comes not from burning impulses which move the world, but from the boundless Love of God Himself. How far beyond this world my Self must be, and yet how near to me and close to God!
Father, You know my true identity. Reveal it now to me who am Your Son, that I may waken to the truth in You, and know that Heaven is restored to me.
The Son of God is not a concept, it is your Identity.
This lesson is one of the deepest in the curriculum. After recognizing that only truth matters (lesson 251), it reveals to you who you truly are. This is not a philosophical idea or a beautiful metaphor: the Son of God is your true Identity. The curriculum brings you here to the heart of the question of identity. All the work of forgiveness, letting go, and vision had only one purpose: to enable you to recognize Who you are.
The central idea is that your Self is holy beyond any thought of holiness you can conceive. Its shining purity surpasses all the lights you have ever beheld. Its love is limitless, its strength not drawn from worldly impulses but from God’s boundless Love. This Self is far beyond the world, yet close to God. The final prayer asks the Father to reveal this true Identity, so that you may awaken to truth in Him.
This lesson is the pinnacle of a series that began with the recognition of the need for truth (251). It prepares lessons 253–255, where you will discover the power of this identity: your Self governs the universe, every voice but God’s must fall silent, and you choose perfect peace. All previous lessons, from forgiveness (247) to safety (244), converge here like rivers flowing into the ocean of identity.
In practical terms, today take a moment of silence. Close your eyes and slowly repeat: “The Son of God is my Identity.” Do not try to understand with your mind. Let this truth sink into your heart. When you look at others, remember they share this same Identity with you. When you look in the mirror, look beyond the face you see and recognize the Son of God gazing back.
You are not what you thought you were. You are God’s beloved Son, created perfect and holy for eternity. This is your true Identity. Never forget it.
