Lesson 243
Lesson 243

Today I will judge nothing that occurs.

I will be honest with myself today. I will not think that I already know what must remain beyond my present grasp. I will not think I understand the whole from bits of my perception, which are all that I can see. Today I recognize that this is so. And so I am relieved of judgement which I cannot make. Thus do I free myself and what I look upon, to be in peace as God created us.

Father, today I leave creation free to be itself. I honor all the parts, in which I am included. We are one because each part contains Your memory, and truth must shine in all of us as one.

✨ Summary & practice

Today, lay down your judgments and breathe.

This lesson is a welcome relief on your journey. After entrusting your day to God in lesson 242, you arrive at a liberating practice: judging nothing that occurs. The curriculum gently guides you from doing to being. This is a delicate step, for your mind loves to judge, classify, and evaluate. But this lesson offers you a magnificent challenge: to recognize that you do not know enough to make a valid judgment about anything.

The central idea is refreshingly honest. You cannot understand the whole from the fragments of your limited perception. So why persist? By recognizing this, you are freed from the judgments you cannot rightly make, and this liberation is offered to you as a gift. You free yourself and you also free what you behold. Creation is then free to be itself, honored in all its parts, including you.

This lesson flows directly from lessons 241 and 242: after recognizing salvation as present and entrusting the day to God, you release the burden of judgment. It opens the way for the following lessons on total safety in God (244) and the peace that follows you everywhere (245). Non-judgment is, in fact, an advanced form of forgiveness: you do not forgive because you no longer see sin to forgive. Everything is already perfect.

To live this lesson today, observe yourself when you judge. Whenever you catch yourself thinking "this is good," "this is bad," "he should have," "she shouldn’t have," pause. Simply remember: "I do not know the whole. I cannot judge." Then let the thought go. You will see how life becomes lighter when you stop being the world’s judge. Try it for just one day.

You do not need to understand everything. Peace comes when you accept not knowing. That is where truth can finally shine.
