Lesson 242

The mind of the Sage being in repose becomes the mirror of the universe, the speculum of all creation.

Excerpt

When water is still, it is like a mirror, reflecting the beard and the eyebrows. It gives the accuracy of the water-level, and the philosopher makes it his model. And if water thus derives lucidity from stillness, how much more the faculties of the mind? The mind of the Sage being in repose becomes the mirror of the universe, the speculum of all creation.

โœจ To meditate on today

According to Chuang Tzu, just as still water becomes clear enough to reflect everything, repose clarifies the mind, and the calm heart of the sage becomes a mirror in which heaven, earth and all beings are reflected. Today, faced with a decision or a disturbance, wait for your mind to settle, as one lets the water in a glass become clear, before choosing.
