Lesson 241

They moved about like gods.

Excerpt

They bestrode the air as though treading on solid earth; they were cradled in space as though resting in a bed. Clouds and mist obstructed not their vision, thunder-peals could not stun their ears, physical beauty disturbed not their hearts, mountains and valleys hindered not their steps. They moved about like gods.

✨ To meditate on today

According to Lieh Tzu, the Emperor Huang Ti saw in a dream a land whose inhabitants, free of desires and fears, are troubled neither by beauty nor by ugliness, and which only “the flight of the soul” can reach: an image of the free and peaceful mind. Today, when something troubles you or attracts you too much, breathe and imagine your soul rising gently above it, like a bird looking at the landscape from on high.
