Lesson 177

Let them not thoughtlessly indulge themselves in their ordinary life; let them not act as if weary of what that life depends on.

Excerpt

Let them not thoughtlessly indulge themselves in their ordinary life; let them not act as if weary of what that life depends on. It is by avoiding such indulgence that such weariness does not arise. Therefore the sage knows these things of himself, but does not parade his knowledge; loves, but does not appear to set a value on, himself.

โœจ To meditate on today

According to Lao Tzu, the sage does not feel cramped in his dwelling and does not grow weary of his lot: he knows himself without putting himself forward, and takes care of himself without overrating himself. Today, look at your home and your situation with fresh eyes, and name three things you truly appreciate there.
