Lesson 348

There is no day without night, nor night without day.

Excerpt

It is written: β€œAnd it was evening, and it was morning, which made one day.” Evening comes from the side of darkness, and morning from the side of light, and it is from their union that the day is formed. Rabbi Yehouda said: Why does Scripture say, on each day of the creation: β€œAnd it was evening, and it was morning”? It is to teach us that there is no day without night, nor night without day; therefore they must not be separated.

✨ To meditate on today

According to the Zohar, the great book of Jewish mysticism, evening comes from the side of darkness and morning from the side of light, and it is their union that forms a day; Rabbi Yehouda concludes that night must not be separated from day. This evening, as you look back on your day, welcome its difficult moments along with its bright ones, as two parts of the same day, and give thanks for the whole.
