Mantic uttaïr, The contemplative in ecstasy

A madman in God, a wondrous thing, dwelt in a mountainous place, living night and day among the panthers. From time to time he fell into ecstasy, and his ecstatic state was communicated even to those who came to the place where he was. For twenty days he remained in this abnormal state; for twenty days he leapt and danced from morning till evening, and he would always say: “We two are one; we are not many, know this, O Thou who art all joy and no sorrow!”
How could he die whose heart is with God? Give Thy heart to God, for He loves the Friend of the heart. If Thy heart bears some trace of His love, can death have any hold upon thee?
