Mantic uttaïr, Conversation between God and Satan

God once said to Moses in secret: “Ask Satan for a good word.” When, therefore, Moses saw Iblis on his way, he asked him to tell him a good word. “Always keep this single maxim in mind,” replied the devil: “Do not say ‘I,’ lest you become like me.”
So long as the least trace of outward life remains in you, you will have infidelity as your portion, and not the service of God. Inaction is the end of the spiritual path; the good man’s fame lies in ill repute: for if he succeeds in reaching the end of this road, a hundred “I’s” will dash their heads against it in a single instant.
