A distinguished man who loved God saw Majnûn sifting the earth in the middle of the road, and said to him, “O Majnûn! What are you seeking thus?”—“I seek Laïla,” he replied.—“Can you hope to find Laïla thus?” resumed the other; “could so pure a pearl be in this dust?”—“I seek Laïla everywhere,” said Majnûn, “in the hope of finding her one day somewhere.”

✨ To meditate on today
According to Attar, Majnûn, the legendary lover of Laïla, sifts the dust of the road to look for her, for the one who loves searches everywhere, sure of finding one day; for the Sufis, Laïla is an image of the divine Beloved. Today, look for God where you do not expect Him, in an ordinary task, a stranger, a moment of waiting, and note where you sensed a reflection of His presence.
