Yûçuf of Hamdan, a celebrated imâm of his age, who possessed the secrets of the world and was clear-sighted in such matters, used to say: “All that is seen above and below in existence, every atom, in short, is another Jacob asking news of Joseph, whom he has lost.”

According to Attar, who reports the saying of a wise imam, all creation is seeking what it loves, as the patriarch Jacob sought news of his lost son Joseph: every atom longs to find the Beloved again. Today, notice this same quest around you, a plant turning toward the light, a child running to its mother, and recognize it in your own heart too.
