Lesson 296

Perchance He who brought the objects of desire will bring them face to face with me.

Excerpt

Is this a vague dream or glad tidings revealed in sleep or the speech of an hour in whose speech was my happy fortune? Perchance He who brought the objects of desire will bring them face to face with me, and their gardens will bestow on me the gathered roses.

✨ To meditate on today

According to Ibn Arabi, the Andalusian Sufi master, in this love poem from The Interpreter of Desires, the lover, between dream and glad tidings, hopes that the One who placed the desire in his heart — God — will fulfil it, as a garden offers its roses. Today, entrust to God a deep wish of your heart, and leave a little room for hope.
