Lesson 169

It was the proclamation of Thy love that shook the strings of Life’s most secret lyre.

Excerpt

It was the proclamation of Thy love That shook the strings of Life’s most secret lyre, And still my breast heaves with last night’s desire, For countless echoes from that music sprang. And ever, since the time that Hafiz heard His Lady’s voice, as from a rocky hill Reverberates the softly spoken word, So echoes of desire his bosom fill.

✨ To meditate on today

According to Hafiz, a Persian poet, the tidings of divine love set the most secret strings of life vibrating, and their echoes go on resounding long in the heart; the “Lady” he sings of is, in Sufi poetry, an image of the divine Beloved. Today, listen to a song, a recitation or music that uplifts you, then keep a few minutes of silence to let its echoes resound within you.
