According to Rumi, when the love of God is kindled in a heart, it is no longer a prisoner of “effects,” that is, of outward signs and circumstances: it no longer needs proofs, for love shines by its own light. Today, love someone without waiting for anything in return or any sign of gratitude: do them good discreetly, for love alone.
