Lesson 10

The madness of love alone possesses me and suffices me.

Excerpt

The madness of love alone possesses me and suffices me. Such madness is not suited to everyone. I devote my soul to the love of this friend; yet my quest is in vain. The time has come when I must draw a line through my life, so that I may share the cup of wine of my Beloved. Then I shall illumine the eye of my heart with His beauty, and my hand shall touch His neck as a pledge of union.

✨ To meditate on today

According to Attar, in The Conference of the Birds (Mantic uttaïr), a bird confides that it leaves everything behind for the love of God: “drawing a line through one’s life” means giving up what weighs us down, so that the eye of the heart may become bright and be united with the Beloved. Today, choose one small thing that weighs you down, a habit or a worry, and set it aside to make more room for love.
