Lesson 76

Our mother Vithai is like a cool shadow; Her breast is ever filled with love.

Excerpt

Our mother Vithai is like a cool shadow; Her breast is ever filled with love; seated in Her lap I shall seek Her bosom and drink as much as I desire. O yield the milk of Thy mercy and nourish my frame; a stream of nectar flows from Thee. My spirit cannot contain this joy; what is the whole sea compared to it? If we go astray She feels Herself in danger; with loving desire She protects us on every side. Tuka says, β€œI know not what care is; I am Vithai’s dear babe.”

✨ To meditate on today

According to Tukaram, Vithai, a tender name of God (Vithoba of Pandharpur) invoked as a mother, protects and nourishes Her children, and whoever knows himself loved by Her no longer knows care. Today, when a worry comes up, imagine yourself for a moment in the cool shade of this mother, then return to your task more peacefully.
