Lesson 363

To banish my sorrows I continue among the saints.

Excerpt

This practice of penance and contemplation does not attain its end with length of time; but even slow-witted men pass into a trance as they hear Thy story. There is nothing to be compared with it in the three worlds, however much we search. Tuka says, To banish my sorrows I continue among the saints.

โœจ To meditate on today

According to Tukaram, the poet-saint of Maharashtra, hearing the story of God brings even the simplest people into ecstasy, more surely than long austerities; and to drive away his sorrows, he chooses the company of the saints, those good and wise people. Today, if a sadness weighs on you, go toward a bright and kind person, or read a page that uplifts you, rather than staying alone with your pain.
