As first the poor child cries with the pain, but the mother pays no attention to it, her object being to cure the disease. In like manner Raghupati cures His servants of pride, doing it all for their good. Ah, Tulsidas, who would not forswear error and worship such a Lord as this?

✨ To meditate on today
According to Tulsidas, author of the Ramayana in Hindi, Rama, called here Raghupati (“lord of the line of Raghu”), acts toward those who love Him like a mother caring for her child: even when the care hurts a little, it is love that guides her hand, to free them from pride. Today, if a remark or a difficulty bruises your pride, welcome it gently and ask yourself what it might heal in you.
