Lesson 18

All move Râma’s compassion less than simple love.

Excerpt

He, to whom the saints cannot attain by contemplation, whom the Veda itself fails to fathom, even He in His infinite compassion made merry with the monkeys. O mind, abstraction, prayer, charity, penance, the different forms of fasting, sacrifice and vows,—all move Râma’s compassion less than simple love.

✨ To meditate on today

According to Tulsidas, Rama, the divine incarnation whom neither the saints nor the Vedas can grasp, comes so close, in His infinite compassion, that He plays with the monkeys of His army; and what touches His heart most is neither fasting nor rites, but simple love. Today, do one ordinary thing, preparing a meal or doing someone a favour, purely out of love, without trying to do it perfectly or to be seen.
