Lesson 45

I prepared myself with the greatest care for the coming of the Holy Ghost.

Excerpt

Soon after my First Communion I went into retreat again, before being confirmed. I prepared myself with the greatest care for the coming of the Holy Ghost; I could not understand anyone not doing so before receiving this Sacrament of Love. As the ceremony could not take place on the day fixed, I had the consolation of remaining somewhat longer in retreat. How happy I felt!

✨ To meditate on today

According to Saint Thérèse of Lisieux, confirmation (the sacrament through which the Holy Spirit comes to strengthen the baptized) was a visit of love she awaited with all her heart, so much so that she rejoiced when the ceremony was postponed. Today, prepare a moment of prayer as you would prepare for a friend’s visit: choose the time, make a little quiet around you, and welcome the Spirit with joy.
