Lesson 213

Who are able to do above that which we ask or think.

Excerpt

Thence we go in to my mother; we tell her; she rejoiceth: we relate in order how it took place; she leaps for joy, and triumpheth, and blesseth Thee, Who are able to do above that which we ask or think; for she perceived that Thou hadst given her more for me, than she was wont to beg by her pitiful and most sorrowful groanings.

✨ To meditate on today

According to Saint Augustine, his mother, Saint Monica, who had prayed and wept for years for him, leapt for joy on learning of his conversion and blessed God, Who gives beyond what we ask and even beyond what we imagine. Today, think back on an old prayer that was answered differently or more generously than expected, and give thanks for that “beyond.”
