Lesson 33

On the fire of covetousness he will cause the cloud of his mercy to rise, so that the rain of the law may extinguish it.

Excerpt

On the fire of covetousness he will cause the cloud of his mercy to rise, so that the rain of the law may extinguish it. The heavy gates of despondency will he open, and give deliverance to all creatures ensnared in the selfentwined meshes of folly and ignorance.

โœจ To meditate on today

According to the Gospel of Buddha, the sage Asita foretells that the child Siddhattha, the future Buddha, will put out the fire of covetousness with the rain of his mercy and open the gates of despondency for those caught in their own meshes of ignorance. Today, when a pressing craving or discouragement grips you, breathe slowly and, with each exhalation, imagine a gentle rain soothing it and an inner gate opening a little more toward the light.
