Lesson 298

Hold fast to the truth as a lamp.

Excerpt

Therefore, O Ānanda, be ye lamps unto yourselves. Rely on yourselves, and do not rely on external help. Hold fast to the truth as a lamp. Seek salvation alone in the truth. Look not for assistance to any one besides yourselves.

✨ To meditate on today

According to the Gospel of Buddha, shortly before his death, the Buddha tells his disciple Ānanda not to depend on him: each must be his own lamp, relying on the truth he has received. Today, facing a decision, before asking others for their opinion, take a moment of calm to listen to what you know to be right, then act.
