If the world is an illusion, why bother trying to make it better?

A Course in Miracles teaches that the world we perceive is indeed an illusion, created by our minds through the lens of separation and ego. However, the Course also emphasizes the significance of our actions within this illusion.

In Ch.1 — The Meaning of Miracles, it is stated that while the reality of God’s creation is perfect and lacks needs, what we have made through the separation is filled with perceived needs and lacks. There is a stark difference between the illusory world and the truth of existence, but the experience of living in this world can still beckon us to respond with compassion, kindness, and efforts toward improving our shared experience.

The Course encourages us to engage with the world through forgiveness and love, recognizing that our actions can reflect the deeper truth of unity and connection. In Ch.12 — The Problem and the Answer, it emphasizes that while we must not make the illusion of error real, our interpretations and responses to the world can either perpetuate the illusion of separation or help illuminate the path toward healing and reconciliation.

Thus, while the material world may ultimately be illusory, our choices and actions within it matter significantly. They are opportunities to practice love, bring healing, and extend peace to others, which aligns us more closely with our true nature and the essence of divine love.
