Your Son is free, my Father. Let me not imagine I have bound him with the laws I made to rule the body. He is not subject to any laws I made by which I try to make the body more secure. He is not changed by what is changeable. He is not slave to any laws of time. He is as You created him, because he knows no laws except the Law of Love.
Let us not worship idols, nor believe in any laws idolatry would make to hide the freedom of the Son of God. He is not bound except by his beliefs. Yet what he is is far beyond his faith in slavery or freedom. He is free because he is his Father's Son. And he can not be bound unless God's Truth can lie, and God can will that He deceive Himself.
The Son of God is bound by no law you have invented.
After receiving the Word of God (Lesson 276), this lesson proclaims your absolute freedom. Within the curriculum, it is a declaration of spiritual independence. The Son of God is free. You may have imagined he is bound by the laws you made to govern the body, the laws of health, illness, aging, and death. But he is subject to none of these laws. He is not changed by what is changeable. He is not the slave of any law of time.
The central idea is that the Son of God knows only one law: the law of love. The idols of the world and their laws are powerless. Nothing binds the Son except his own beliefs. But what he is transcends his faith in slavery or freedom. He is free because he is the Son of his Father. He cannot be bound, unless the truth of God could lie or God could will to deceive Himself. Freedom is his nature.
This lesson builds upon the revelation of the Word of God (276) and prepares for Lessons 278–280 on limits and liberation. It echoes Lesson 244 (I am in no danger anywhere) and Lesson 253 (my Self governs the universe). If your Self is sovereign, no lesser law can bind it. The following lessons will help you undo the beliefs that imprison you.
To live this lesson today, identify the laws you believe you are subject to: "I must age," "I must die," "I am fragile," "I am sick," "I cannot..." For each belief, say: "This is a law I made, but I am the Son of God. I am subject only to the law of love." Do not seek to prove this freedom miraculously, simply choose to believe it a little more each day. Belief precedes experience.
The chains you believe you wear are only beliefs. And beliefs can be changed. You are free, you always have been. Today, choose to believe it.
