Lesson 268
Lesson 268

Let all things be exactly as they are.

Let me not be Your critic, Lord, today, and judge against You. Let me not attempt to interfere with Your creation, and distort it into sickly forms. Let me be willing to withdraw my wishes from its unity, and thus to let it be as You created it. For thus will I be able, too, to recognize my Self as You created me. In Love was I created, and in Love will I remain forever. What can frighten me when I let all things be exactly as they are?

Let not our sight be blasphemous today, nor let our ears attend to lying tongues. Only reality is free of pain. Only reality is free of loss. Only reality is wholly safe. And it is only this we seek today.

✨ Summary & practice

Let all things be exactly as they are.

After feeling peace in every heartbeat (lesson 267), this lesson teaches you the most difficult art: changing nothing. In the curriculum, it is a lesson in total letting go. You spend your time trying to fix things, correct the world, improve yourself. But this lesson asks: what if you stopped? What if you let all things be exactly as they are? Do not be God’s critic today; do not judge His creation.

The central idea is that you do not need to interfere with God’s creation. Simply be willing to withdraw your wishes from its unity, allowing it to be as God created it. For in this way, you can recognize your Self as God created you. In love you were created, in love you will remain forever. What can frighten you when you let all things be exactly as they are? Only reality is free of pain, loss, and fear.

This lesson continues lessons 265–267 on right perception and peace. It prepares lessons 269–270 on Christ’s vision. Letting go of the desire to change things is the culmination of the non-judgment learned in lesson 243. It is an advanced form of trust: not only do you not judge, but you don’t even try to improve. You let God be God through everything.

To practice this today, each time you feel the urge to correct, fix, or improve something (or someone, including yourself), pause. Breathe. Say: 'I withdraw my wish. Let this thing be exactly as it is.' This does not mean becoming passive, but acting from acceptance, not resistance. You will see things fall into place far better when you stop forcing.

The world is already perfect in its Source. By ceasing to want to change it, you allow its perfection to reveal itself to you. Let go, and let God.
