Sin is the symbol of attack. Behold it anywhere, and I will suffer. For forgiveness is the only means whereby Christ's vision comes to me. Let me accept what His sight shows me as the simple truth, and I am healed completely. Brother, come and let me look on you. Your loveliness reflects my own. Your sinlessness is mine. You stand forgiven, and I stand with you.
So would I look on everyone today. My brothers are Your Sons. Your Fatherhood created them, and gave them all to me as part of You and my own Self as well. Today I honor You through them, and thus I hope this day to recognize my Self.

This lesson comes after understanding that loving others is the path to God (lesson 246). The curriculum now shows you why forgiveness is so essential. Without it, you remain blind, unable to see reality. Sin is defined as the symbol of attack, and seeing it anywhere causes you pain. Forgiveness is not optional, it is the only means by which Christ’s vision can come to you.
The central idea is that forgiveness is the remedy for spiritual blindness. Through forgiveness, you see the beauty of your brother, which reflects your own. His impeccability is yours. You are forgiven, and you forgive at the same time. It is a circular movement of healing. By looking upon each one through forgiveness, you honor God Himself, for your brothers are His Sons, given to you as part of your Self.
This lesson builds directly on the previous ones: after recognizing that to love God is to love His Son (246), you now learn that forgiveness is the means to see this Son as he truly is. It also prepares lessons 248 and 249 on the end of suffering through forgiveness. Christ’s vision is not magical, it is simply seeing with the eyes of forgiveness. The more you forgive, the clearer your vision becomes.
To live this lesson today, begin by identifying anyone you find difficult to look upon. Perhaps someone who hurt you, or someone you judge harshly. Look upon them with the eyes of forgiveness: see beyond their actions, see the Son of God they are. Mentally say to them: “Brother, your beauty reflects mine. You are forgiven, and I am forgiven with you.” Do this for every person you meet today.
Forgiveness is the key that opens all eyes. Without it, you walk in darkness. With it, the light of Christ illuminates everything you see.
