Lesson 111
Lesson 111

Review (91 and 92)

Our third review begins today. We will review two of the last twenty ideas each day until we have reviewed them all. We will observe the special format for these practice periods, which you are strongly encouraged to follow as faithfully as possible. We understand, of course, that it may be impossible for you to undertake what is suggested here as optimal every day and every hour of the day.

Learning will not be hindered if you miss a practice period because it is impossible at the scheduled time. Nor is it necessary for you to make excessive efforts to make up for the number of missed practices. Rituals are not our goal, and they would compromise our learning purpose.

But learning will be hindered if you skip a practice period because you are unwilling to devote the time required of you. Do not be mistaken about this. Lack of willingness can be carefully hidden behind a veil of situations you cannot control. Learn to distinguish situations that are genuinely unsuitable for your practice from those you create to maintain a camouflage for your lack of willingness.

The practice periods you have lost because you did not want to do them, for whatever reason, must be done as soon as you have changed your mind about your goal. You are not willing to cooperate in the practice of salvation only when it interferes with goals you cherish more. When you withdraw the value you have given them, let your practice periods replace your litanies in their honor. They have given you nothing. But your practice periods offer you everything. Accept their offering and be at peace.

The format you should use for these reviews is as follows: devote five minutes twice a day, or longer if you prefer, to meditating on the assigned ideas. First read the ideas and the comments written at the head of the exercises for each day. Then begin to think about them quietly, letting your mind relate them to your needs, your apparent problems, and all your concerns.

Place the ideas in your mind, and let it use them as it wishes. Give it the faith that it will use them wisely, helped in its decisions by Him Who gave you these thoughts. What can you trust but what is in your mind? Have faith, during these reviews, that the means the Holy Spirit uses will not fail you. The wisdom of your mind will come to your aid. Give it a direction at the beginning, then lean back in quiet faith, and let it use the ideas you have given it as they were given to you.

They were given to you with perfect trust; with absolute confidence that you would use them well; with perfect faith that you would understand their messages and use them for yourself. Offer them to your mind with the same trust, the same assurance, and the same faith. It will not fail you. It is the means chosen by the Holy Spirit for your salvation. And with His trust, yours is equally justified.

We emphasize the benefits to you if you devote the first five minutes of the day to your review and also give the last five minutes of your waking day to it. If this cannot be done, at least try to divide them so that you do one in the morning and the other just before you fall asleep.

The exercises to be done throughout the day are just as important, and perhaps of even greater value. You have tended to do the exercises and then move on to other things, without applying what you have learned to them. As a result, your learning has had little reinforcement, and you have not given it the opportunity to prove its value to your eyes.

Here is another chance to use it well. In these reviews, we stress the need not to let your learning remain idle between your longer practice periods. Try to give your two daily ideas a brief but serious review every hour. Use one on the hour, and the other a half hour later. You do not need to spend more than a moment on it.

Repeat it, and let your mind rest a little while in silence and in peace. Then move on to other things, but try to keep the thought with you, and let it help you keep your peace throughout the day. If you are shaken, think of it again. These practice periods are designed to help you form the habit of applying what you learn each day to everything you do.

Do not repeat it and then lay it down. Its usefulness is limitless to you. And it is meant to serve you in all circumstances, at all times and in all places, and whenever you need help of any kind. Try, then, to take it with you into the activities of the day, and make them holy, worthy of the Son of God, acceptable to God and to your Self.

The review task for each day will end with a restatement of the thought to be used every hour, and of the one to be applied every half hour as well. Do not forget them. This second chance with each of these ideas will bring such progress that we will emerge from these reviews with learning gains so great that we will begin again on solid ground.

Do not forget how little you have learned. Do not forget how much you can learn now. Do not forget your Father’s need of you as you review these thoughts He has given you.

For morning and evening review:

[91] Miracles are seen in light.

I cannot see in darkness. Let the light of holiness and truth light up my mind, and let me see the innocence within.

[92] Miracles are seen in light, and light and strength are one.

I see through strength, the gift of God to me.

My weakness is the dark His gift dispels by giving me His strength to take its place.

On the hour: Miracles are seen in light.

On the half hour:

Miracles are seen in light, and light and strength are one.

✨ Summary & practice

We begin the second major review of set 2. Lessons 91 to 110 have deepened essential themes: the vision of miracles, strength and light, joy and peace, the oneness of the Self, pure spirit, happiness, and resting in God. Review 111 brings you back to lessons 91 and 92, the foundations of vision. This is the moment to check that you are beginning to see miracles in light, and that you recognize this light as strength.

'Miracles are seen in light' (91) and 'Miracles are seen in light, and light and strength are one' (92). Together, these two ideas give you the framework of perception for the new world. The first teaches you WHERE to look (in light, not in darkness). The second tells you HOW to look (with God’s strength, not with the body’s weakness). Reviewing these two together is practicing correct vision.

Reviews 111 to 120 cover the last ten lessons of set 2 in pairs. This second series of reviews is more contemplative than the first (81–90). The lessons being reviewed are deeper, closer to direct experience than theoretical instruction. After this review, you will have completed set 2 (lessons 61–120) and will be ready for the next part of the journey. Each day of review is one more step toward integration.

Today, review morning and evening by saying: 'Miracles are seen in light.' Each hour: 'Miracles are seen in light.' Each half-hour: 'Miracles are seen in light, and light and strength are one.' If a situation seems obscure or difficult, remember: you cannot see in darkness. Bring it into the light of your awareness, and let God’s strength replace your weakness.

Reviewing is not going backward. It is letting truth deepen within you.
