Pure water is by nature clear. If untouched, it is smooth. If dammed, it will not flow, neither will it be clear. It is an emblem of the virtue of God. Wherefore it has been said, "Pure, without admixture; uniform, without change; negative, without action; moved, only at the will of God;βsuch would be the spirituality nourished according to Tao."

β¨ To meditate on today
According to Chuang Tzu, water is naturally pure and calm, and becomes cloudy only when it is stirred up: it is the image of heavenly virtue, a spontaneous peace that keeps our vital forces intact. Today, when you feel agitated, watch a glass of water settle after it has been stirred, and let your mind, like it, settle before you act.
