Lesson 310

He harboured no thought of injury to others.

Excerpt

In the days of Shên Nung, they lay down without caring where they were and got up without caring whither they might go. A man knew his mother but not his father. He lived among the wild deer. He tilled the ground for food. He wove cloth to cover his body. He harboured no thought of injury to others. These were the glorious results of an age of perfect virtue.

✨ To meditate on today

According to Chuang Tzu, in the time of Shên Nung, the first farmer of Chinese legend, people lived without worry, at peace with the animals, taking just what they needed to eat and clothe themselves, and no one did harm to another. Today, take only what you need (food, time, the attention of others) and take care to hurt no one by your words or your actions.
