Lesson 278

Be like these; follow Tao; and you will be perfect.

Excerpt

Sir, if you would cause the empire not to lose its source of nourishment,β€”there is the universe, its regularity is unceasing; there are the sun and moon, their brightness is unceasing; there are the stars, their groupings never change; there are birds and beasts, they flock together without varying; there are trees and shrubs, they grow upwards without exception. Be like these; follow Tao; and you will be perfect.

✨ To meditate on today

According to Chuang Tzu, Lao Tan (Lao Tzu) advises Confucius, if he wants to do good to the world, first to observe nature: the sun and moon shine unceasingly, the stars keep their order, everything follows its course, pervaded by the peaceful influence of the Principle. Today, take a moment to observe a regular rhythm of nature (the changing light, a plant, your breathing) and let it teach you to act with the same quiet constancy.
