Lesson 149

An autumn spikelet, in all its minuteness, must carry Tao within itself.

Excerpt

The six cardinal points, reaching into infinity, are ever included in Tao. An autumn spikelet, in all its minuteness, must carry Tao within itself. There is nothing on earth which does not rise and fall, but it never perishes altogether. The Yin and the Yang, and the four seasons, keep to their proper order.

โœจ To meditate on today

According to Chuang Tzu, even the tiniest straw owes its existence to heaven and earth, which make all beings evolve to the rhythm of yin and yang, the two complementary forces of nature, and of the seasons. Today, look closely at a small thing, a leaf, a pebble, a crumb of bread, and recognize in it the whole universe that brought it into being.
