Lesson 39

The “cistern” will in the end become a “well.”

Excerpt

But Scripture wishes to teach us that the “cistern” will in the end become a “well.” At first, the souls of the righteous, like a poor man, shall possess nothing of their own; therefore Scripture calls them a “cistern,” which contains only the water poured into it. When the world is in such a state, it is designated by the letter Daleth. But the souls of the righteous shall become a “well” and shall gush forth with living water in every direction.

✨ To meditate on today

According to the Zohar, the soul is at first like a cistern that holds only the water poured into it, then it becomes a well from which living water springs; the Hebrew letter Daleth stands here for the one who as yet has nothing of his own. Today, share with someone a little of what you have received — knowledge, time, a smile — to let the spring flow rather than keep it.
