Lesson 286

Every day he gave alms to the poor, toward whom he showed himself gracious.

Excerpt

From that day on, this Jew became rich; for he had found a treasure. He devoted the rest of his life to the study of the doctrine; every day he gave alms to the poor, toward whom he showed himself gracious. Rabbi Simeon applied to him the following verse: โ€œBut as for thee, thou shalt rejoice in the Lord; Thou shalt find thy delight in the bosom of Israel.โ€

โœจ To meditate on today

According to the Zohar, the great book of Jewish mysticism, a poor man whom Rabbi Simeon, the master of the Zohar, had blessed became rich overnight; but he made his wealth a path of kindness: he studied the divine teaching and gave to the poor every day, with gentleness and graciousness, and his joy was in God. Today, give something to a person in need, and do it with a smile and a kind word, not only with your hand.
