Then the light descends from Heaven, surrounds the man, rejoices his heart, and leads him to contemplate the mysteries of the second palace. At this moment the union of the four “Ophanim” takes place, as does the union of “Fire” with “Water” and of “Water” with “Fire”; that of “South” with “North” and of “North” with “South”; that of “East” with “West” and of “West” with “East.” Thus the man's prayer brings about the union of the spirit below with the spirit above, and thereby the union of all things.

✨ To meditate on today
According to the Zohar, the great book of Jewish mysticism, when a person prays, the light descends from heaven, surrounds him and rejoices his heart; his prayer then unites what seemed opposed, fire and water, north and south, east and west, and binds the world below to the world above. The “Ophanim” are angels that the Bible describes as wheels full of eyes, and the “palaces” are levels of the spiritual world. Today, take a moment of prayer or silence and entrust to it two realities of your life that seem opposed, asking that the light reconcile them.
