Lesson 227

More righteousness, more peace.

Excerpt

He used to say, More flesh, more worms: more treasures, more care: more maidservants, more lewdness: more menservants, more theft: more women, more witchcrafts: more Thorah, more life: more wisdom, more scholars: more righteousness, more peace. He who has gotten a good name has gotten it for himself. He who has gotten to himself words of Thorah, has gotten to himself the life of the world to come.

✨ To meditate on today

According to Hillel, in the Sayings of the Fathers (Pirkei Avot), piling up goods, servants or wives, as was done in his time, multiplies worries, while more study, more wisdom and more righteousness bring more life and more peace. Today, give up one useless “more” — a purchase, an hour of screen time — and offer that time to a just act or to a few lines of study.
