The reign on high sends its life-giving voice below, and that below sends its voice of gratitude on high. Therefore Scripture adds: “God created by Élohim the heavens and the earth”; for the two reigns complete one another; the reign of the King on high is glorified by the reign here below.

According to the Zohar, the great book of Jewish mysticism, the world on high and the world here below answer one another: one sends a voice that gives life, the other replies with a voice of gratitude, and together they complete each other. Today, each time you receive something — a meal, a smile, some help — answer with a sincere thank you, aloud or in your heart.
